Life Pyramid

The term vessel can be used to describe many things including hollow containers, especially those used to water, or containers used to hold or protect life, such as a blood vessel or a ship. When conceptualizing "Life Pyramid" I wanted to create a vessel that utilizes New Age concepts of copper pyramids and sacred geometry. Sacred geometry assigns spiritual meaning to specific geometric shapes, i.e. the pyramid, and proportions, i.e. the flower of life. Some individuals even believe that the universe was created according to these geometric plans.

In New Age spirituality, the pyramid is believed to have a strong ionization effect with living things when placed within the pyramid made of copper. Things like water and fruit can be “purified”, and the “third eye” can be calmed and focused when a copper pyramid is placed over the head during a meditative practice. The Flower of life is believed to depict fundamental forms of space and time and is a visual expression of the connections life weaves between all living things. The flower of life also contains the five platonic solids which are geometrical forms said to act as a template for all living things.

The constructed object attempts to unifies these two concepts in a hollow constructed pyramid made of etched and pierced copper. The end result is a vessel that not only contains life, but nourishes and protects it.
